Famine & Food Markets Crisis Continues

Open Doors has reported that as a result of the continued famine, food markets have opened up but heavy restrictions and regulations have been placed upon them. No woman under the age of 49 can operate a market, leaving many to have their elderly female relatives work them. Markets are now only able to operate one day a week, greatly restricting the ability to both buy and sell. Prices of food has in North Korea have tripled, children are even seen begging now in the streets of surburban Pyongyang. Three quarters of North Korean families have decreased their food intake. Medical ailments associated with malnutrition have greatly increased.

On a positive note, Open Doors has increased their food donations and are supplying to more North Korean families than ever... 60,000 in 2008. The World Food Organization has also increased their food delivery production for North Koreans and are monitoring the situation.

Please pray for the people of North Korea, that God will sustain them and provide for them and ease the burdens of those who have been helplessly watching their precious children and family members suffer from malnutrition and starvation. Let God's will be done, and may He change the hearts of those who lead this nation and move them with strong compassion for their own people.
